Start with the student.
Before choosing a time, tell the school the student’s age, previous experience, and what you hope they will get from training. For a child, that may mean becoming comfortable in a group. For an adult, it may mean learning a new skill or returning to a routine.
At KT, Pee Wee is for ages 4–6, with other programs for children, teens, adults, and families. Class placement is confirmed with the school so beginners do not have to interpret a belt-level timetable on their own.
Confirm the practical details.
When the school contacts you, confirm the class time and ask:
- What should the student wear, and is anything needed for the trial?
- How early should we arrive?
- Where can a parent or guardian observe?
- Who should we speak with about participation needs?

Give the first class room to be a first class.
A new setting can feel unfamiliar. For younger children, describe the visit simply: they will meet an instructor and try learning something new. Avoid making the visit a test of confidence or ability. Notice whether the student becomes more comfortable as the environment becomes familiar.
Tell the instructor if the student is hesitant about joining a group. That conversation helps everyone approach the trial with realistic expectations.
Pay attention to the teaching.
Look at how instructions are explained, how students respond to corrections, and how the instructor handles differences in experience. Consider whether the class gives the student a challenge they can understand and whether you feel comfortable asking questions.
